Kaylee Elliott
Cal Poly SLO
Majoring in Child Development B.S.
Hi everyone! My name is Kaylee Elliott, and I’m really excited to be joining the Central Coast Childbirth Network community this year. I am a fourth-year Child Development major at Cal Poly, and I’m really passionate about working with children and families. I’m looking forward to learning more about how to support families during such an important time in their lives and gaining hands-on experience through this internship.

I am originally from Clovis, CA, and my experiences growing up have shaped my interest in psychology, development, and supporting others. I am biracial and grew up in a predominantly white environment, which has influenced how I view identity, inclusion, and the importance of feeling seen and supported. These experiences are a big part of why I am drawn to work that focuses on care, advocacy, and helping people feel understood. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends, running, painting (oils and acrylic), trying new foods, and just doing things that help me reset and stay grounded.
I have always been interested in working with children and families because I find development so interesting, especially how early experiences can shape long-term outcomes. Over time, that interest has grown into wanting to support families not just during childhood, but starting as early as pregnancy and postpartum. That is what really drew me to CCCN, because of the way the organization focuses on supporting the whole family, both emotionally and physically, and creating a sense of community.
Through this internship, I am really excited to learn from the professionals and community members involved in CCCN. I’m especially interested in learning more about prenatal and postnatal support and how education, resources, and emotional support can make a difference for families. I’m also really excited for shadowing opportunities, and if I had the chance to observe a birth, I think that would be such an amazing and meaningful experience.
In the future, I hope to pursue a career in clinical psychology, ideally working with children and families. I’m really interested in supporting children’s emotional development and helping families navigate challenges in a healthy and supportive way. I’m still figuring out the exact path I want to take, but I know I want my work to involve making a positive impact and helping people feel understood and supported.
Thank you, CCCN, for welcoming me into such a caring and inspiring community. I cannot wait to begin this journey and contribute wherever I can.
