šæš©ŗThis month, CCCN highlights Birth and Wellness Providers in Adult and Pediatric Medicine and Specialties.
CCCN Coffee Connection co-host and CtP Program Director Zabrina Cox spoke with local birth and wellness professional āØDr. Niki Rarig, ND, LAcāØ
About Dr. Niki Rarig, ND, LAc
"Dr. Niki Rarig, ND, LAc is a naturopathic doctor, acupuncturist and owner of East West Natural Medicine Center in San Luis Obispo. She discovered natural medicine while struggling with digestive issues as a teenager growing up in Cayucos. After getting extensive workup with multiple specialists, she still had no clear diagnosis or improvement in her symptoms. She eventually found a naturopathic doctor who worked with her on nutrition, and started seeing Dr. Jean Yu, the founder of East West, for acupuncture. She was soon able to regain her health and go back to being a normal teenager.
This experience stuck with her when choosing a career in healthcare. She knew she wanted to combine the best of both worlds in her training: the exceptional diagnostic and management tools of conventional western medicine, and the whole-person assessment and diverse treatment techniques of naturopathic and Chinese medicine. After completing her doctorate in naturopathic medicine and masters in Chinese medicine from NUNM in Portland, Oregon, she came back full circle to practice at East West alongside Dr. Yu (who has since retired at the age of 81!).
East West is currently home to four dually licensed naturopathic doctors and acupuncturists: Dr. Julianna Englund, Dr. Monika Allen, Dr. Ellerie Nagy, and Dr. Rarig. Treatments are customized to each individual and may include acupuncture, nutrition and lifestyle education, herbal medicine, various manual therapies (myofascial release, craniosacral, abdominal massage, pelvic floor rehab), and pharmaceutical interventions when indicated. Common conditions treated include fertility and menstrual issues, postmenopausal hormones, body pain, digestive disorders, depression/anxiety, and cardiometabolic conditions (e.g. blood sugar, cholesterol)."
